Dave got up before dawn to head to the airport. Last time we went to Panama at Christmas time security was a nightmare. But wouldn’t you know it, he breezed thru security. Too bad you cannot bank that karma.
When he got to Panama, he started fretting that he did not have a return ticket when going thru immigration. Panama says that you are supposed to have a return ticket or they won’t allow you entry. Having been back and forth several times now, we’ve always had copies of the boat paperwork in hand, along with a letter from the marina stating that our boat is parked there. Alas we had forgotten that – though he did have the latest US boat registration. He figured he would pull that out if questioned. But, as is often the case in Central America, no one cared a whit. Not a problem, no picture, no finger prints, just one question: work or pleasure. He had to think about that for a second. Welcome to Panama. Gotta love good databases. Apparently, Dave’s computer records show that he comes and goes routinely.
The place we normally stay in Panama – Deb’s Place is closed. She recommended the Panama Hat Hostel right next door. Dave got to park right out front on the street. Nice little place right at ground level. Not as homey as Deb’s but much better than a hotel. You walk into a little lobby with a couple couches and some tables and chairs. Very friendly. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Had a bienvenido copa de vino and then went to bed around 10. Tomorrow will be a busy day!
